Obesity is a disease that affects nearly 100 million Americans, disproportionately impacting Black and Latinx adults and rural Americans. Obesity tripled the risk of hospitalization from COVID-19 and contributes to major causes of death, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer. Healthcare providers know obesity is a preventable and treatable disease, but insurance policies and our laws must catch up.

The Obesity Care Advocacy Network (OCAN) is leading the fight to modernize policies, letting science lead the way for obesity care. Join us in reducing healthcare inequities and saving lives.

Medicare does not cover safe, FDA-approved anti-obesity medications and places unnecessary restrictions on intensive behavioral therapy. This leaves people without access to lifesaving care. The evidence is clear: obesity is a chronic disease that requires medical treatment. It’s time we act that way. OCAN needs your help to ensure those living with obesity have access to the life-saving care they need. Tell Congress and the Biden administration to follow the science for obesity care and provide access to treatment.
